"Titania"

Artist`s Statement

The Victorian painters used to be much inspired by literature, and
I think it is still a rich source of inspiration. Amongst other images suggested by Shakesperean themes is Titania, the queen of the
fairies from “A Midsummer Night`s Dream”. The idea of a creature
totally born of the forest appealed to me, and suggested a wide
range of greens and natural forms. The work was improvised in the sense that I did not have a plan or preliminary sketches before work began.
